Detoxification ! What does it mean exactly? Are you confused like most people ?
It is certainly a term that is bandied about the internet these days and there are whole series of books and DVDs and videos all about it, but do we really know what it is, if it would benefit us and if so how?
Welcome to my pages on body detox, that if read in entirety will equip you to know not only if detox is something that you should do, but also why you should and how you should.
You will also learn what to expect and what not to expect. And you will learn how to focus on particular 'parts' of your body to focus your detox efforts there specifically.
What is it? According to Wikipedia Detoxification is: "the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including, but not limited to, the human body and additionally can refer to the period of withdrawal during which an organism returns to homeostasis after long-term use of an addictive substance"
So put simply, it is about getting harmful subsctances out of our body so that our bodies can function better and we can be healthier.
In answer to this, I created a 15 minute video all about detoxification. It talks about detoxifying the liver, but actually the concepts can be applied to any detox whether liver, kidney, colon or whole body.
You can find the Detox Video right here on this page.
The quick answer to this is yes there are, though none should be so bad as to make you really ill. However you do need to be aware of them and for that reason I created this page on Detox Side Effects. If you are seriously considering doing any kind of body detox, you should read this page.
There are general body detox programs, home remedies and herbs out there for sure. But it is also possible to hone in and focus on a particular part of the body ... or by using a particualr herb or remedy that has a particular affinity wth a body part.
On this page you will find out all about different remedies for doing a safe and natural Liver Detox
And if you want to focus on a kidney detoxification specifically then my Kidney Detoxification Page is what you need.
I have not (yet) done a section on colon cleansing specifically, though as I said earlier, the same principles and philosophies apply. However, I have written on Acai Berry which is an extremely potent colon cleansing and weight loss remedy that may interest you.
These are many and plentiful and any internet search will give you massive lists of herbs and remedies. I have however, written about a select few that cover most peoples requirements, and I plan to extend this section as time allows for I have much more knowledge and experience to share yet.
Here is a list of the specific detoxification herbs covered thus far on a whole page of their own.
However, dont forget that on my Liver Detox and Kidney Detox pages, I write a small amount on many different herbs and homeopathic remedies also. Just because they do not have a dedicated page of their own, does not mean they are less effective. Merely that I have not gotten around to writing a full page on them so far.
So, back to the list
Absolutely! Body detox is indeed possible with food and drink also (but not the alcoholic type), and in many ways preferable since the correct foods can be incorporated into your daily lifestyle really easily and thus become part of your regular routine, rather than a specific event that you have to do every so often.
If you are interested in using food to gain better health then these pages will be valuable to you, but dont forget that foods for detoxification are also covered in brief on both my Liver Detox and Kidney Detox pages so you should check those out also
Yes in many cases they are. When we store toxicity, our body has to have somewhere to store it. It has various choices and genetics and other factors largely determine this but one of the storage areas available to us is our fat cells. Other places are in our liver and kidneys, in our joints, in our skin cells all of which give rise to their own set of problems.
When the fat cells are used to store toxins, it makes it extremely difficult to shed the fat since it has a job to do. Hold on to the toxins so that they are not free floating in our system and wreaking havoc. So while this approach that the body takes, keeps us safe it also keeps us fat !!!!
The answer then, is to do a detox before a weight loss program or combine the both together and infact many remedies, herbs and dietary approaches do just this.
As an aside, this is also why drinking lots of water when trying to lose weight is advocated. It is not about making us feel artificially full. It is to allow stored toxicity to be more easily released and excreted from the body. If we do not drink enough, then the toxins cannot be mobilized.
Body detox and detoxification in general is a large and confusing topic. The internet is chock full of products, remedies and advice and it it is up to you to wade through it all, sorting the wheat from the chaff.
However, I do hope that this page and all the related pages mentioned here, and in the related pages column on the right will assist you in finding the approach that is best for you.
