Are you wondering if a natural liver detox would benefit you, or possibly a body detox in general or a even a colon detox. Yes is the answer, absolutely, but for the purposes of this page we will stick to liver detox.
There are also many detox products and detox methods available these days including foot detox, sauna detox, kidney detox, skin detox, body detox, hair detox, drug detox, alcohol detox to name just a few.
There are also many ways to detoxify including detox herbs, detox kits, detox patches, detox diets, detox fasting, detox pills, detox pads and many more too numerous to mention.
As I expand my site, I will come back and devote more pages to these very topics, but for now I will stay focused on Natural liver detox.
So, moving on, anyone in today’s modern world would benefit in so many ways, from a natural liver detox and those already sick will likely benefit in more obvious ways than others. But you are not sure right? Not quite convinced.
Maybe your doctor did blood tests and other lab works and told you that your liver is just fine and so now you are thinking, well then a natural liver detox is going to be of no benefit to me whatsoever.
I clearly do not need a natural liver detox or any other kind of detox come to that right? Wrong! Please continue to read on, to find out why this is so.
Interestingly and somewhat confusingly, it is often the case that liver function blood tests will be normal but I have learned over the years that is no indication that the organ is not suffering. None at all actually.
It may be that the person would have to get even sicker before blood tests actually start to show something as the body will always, without fail, do its absolute best to keep us healthy even when it is struggling to cope with the workload.
So blood tests will be normal until things have advanced far enough that now it cannot function properly and now blood tests will show raised liver enzymes and other indicators of its distress.
So if you happen to have had liver function tests and they are clear, that is indeed excellent news. However it certainly does not mean that your organs would not benefit from a natural liver detox.
How do we get so toxic?
If the truth be told, in today’s modern world we are all exposed to so many toxins every day, that everyone’s liver and kidneys would benefit from a cleansing every so often.
For example, we eat processed foods full of colourings, flavourings, preservatives, hormones and other chemicals. It is often stored in plastic containers. We breathe in tobacco smoke, petrol fumes, industrial pollutants all of the time. Many of us take prescription medications regularly. We often drink alcohol socially (or more often than that in some cases).
We are exposed to all manner of toxins and “drugs” that our system has to cope with on a daily basis.
These toxins are broken down and rendered “safe” and ready to be excreted by the liver and so it goes without saying that if it is bombarded with toxins, poisons, chemicals, prescription drugs and even non-prescription drugs every single day, year in and year out, that it going to need some assistance. It gets tired. It gets stressed.
This is where a natural liver detox comes into its own. A safe and effective way to gently tone the liver, and allow the body to get rid of the excess build-up of these substances that accumulate over time, and can lead to further havoc within the body aside from whatever else may already be going on.
And even if you live in the country, and do not go into town often and grow your own organic veggies, you will still be dealing with some of this stuff at some level.
For sure, your system will likely have less to contend with but sadly you cannot escape these things entirely.
For example, it was even discovered some years ago that ice at the North Pole contained pesticides presumably blown over in rain clouds before descending in that area and thus polluting it.
Toxins get everywhere eventually. Sad but true.
Now I am not trying to be all doom and gloom here, though for sure, we ought to be taking better care of our planet, but what I am trying to do is illustrate how everyone, no matter what their life style and location, would benefit from a natural liver detox.
What can be done?
So wouldn’t it be nice if there was a safe way to perform a natural liver detox?
If there were such a thing, it would mean that after the liver detoxification had occurred, the liver would then be more able to conduct its various jobs and functions properly and efficiently.
Of course, this would then have added knock on benefits because a better functioning and cleaner liver will further enhance the overall effect of any other health improvement measures that you are adopting at this time, whether that be lifestyle, dietary or even reducing toxin inhalation or consumption in whatever form (alcohol, cigarettes for example).
Well to cut to the chase, you are in luck. There is a natural and safe way to clean the kidneys and a natural way to detox the liver also.
Actually there are many natural detox methods including dietary, homeopathic remedies and herbs to support both the liver and kidneys but so I don’t cause you to feel confused and overwhelmed, again, I will limit my choices to just a select few user friendly ones that I know work very well.
Feel free to do your own due diligence and choose whatever suits you, whether you find it recommended on my site or not.
Some of the natural liver detox methods
Home natural liver detox using diet
There are many food stuffs that can act as a natural liver detox and so a Google search will bring in many results for natural liver detox diets.
This is just one such diet that I have seen bring results with people, and it is extremely easy to do and inexpensive which in my book, make it worth considering.
This home remedy liver detox recipe has proven to be very effective time and again. It helps to achieve a complete body detox, including the liver, kidneys and intestines, naturally, quickly, yet gently and safely.
The fact that it helps address the kidneys and intestines too, which certainly also suffer with toxic buildup of waste products, is just a fantastic added bonus.
Blend all of the ingredients together:
2 cups of fresh grapefruit juice
1 cup water
2 inch fresh ginger, grated
Juice of 2 limes
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoon flax seed oil
Drink about ¼ cup of this blend twice a day. It might taste yucky at first but you do get used to it, and the benefits are potentially great and can lead to very positive health benefits.
This home detox remedy will tone up the lining of the gastro-intestinal tract, (your guts in layman’s terms) but also help the liver and the kidneys in the process of detoxification, washing out of accumulated waste and toxins, while also improving bowel movement and cleansing the colon too.
You need to do this for at least a couple of weeks, but if you still see that your body is still cleansing after this time, then continue for a little longer or take a break and then come back to it and continue. Remember, your liver has been getting toxic for a very long time so it may not all clear out in just a few days.
Useful herbs for natural liver detox
I am going to mention just a couple of excellent herbs here that taken together will help to detoxify and support both the liver and the kidneys.
You can purchase them as separate ingredients from many good natural health stores and of course online.
However there are many other herbs that when combined together, also work extremely well, and so you could buy a combination liver and kidney detox remedy which will contain a mix of several ingredients, blended together in a formula designed.
If you have a busy lifestyle, you may find this method preferable. Some people also find it more palatable as many of these products can be taken in capsule form so no bad tastes to have to deal with.
Now this marvelous and wondrous little plant, is so fantastic for a natural Milk thistle liver detox that it deserves a page all of its own.
It is one of my most favourite natural liver detox remedies, and certainly possibly one of the most effective that I have ever had experience of using in my practice.
Yes the humble dandelion, otherwise known as Taraxicum Officianale. This is another amazing little plant (though we call it a weed) with big time medicinal kidney and liver detoxification properties. It also happens to have healing properties for the gall bladder, pancreas, spleen and digestive system so is a bit of an all-rounder for the abdominal organs.
Dandelion has a long history of being used medicinally over the years and actually has also even been used as a food in salads. Dandelion Greens actually have slightly more Vitamin A per 100g than carrots, more than twice the amount of calcium than spinach and almost six times as much vitamin C than blueberries. Pretty amazing for the humble weed don’t you think.
I have used the natural remedy dandelion for kidney and liver detox with many patients over the years with some really good health benefits, and symptom improvements of all kinds and I recall that for some lucky people, once the liver and kidney detox was complete, they found that the illness or set of symptoms that they wanted me to go on and treat afterwards had actually settled down completely already.
As you can imagine, they were extremely impressed.
As always with homeopathy, since there are over 3,500 different remedies to choose from in many different potencies, it follows that there are going to be many that can help address a toxic liver.
However there are just a couple that I would like to mention here in particular because both of them have a particular affinity with the liver and do a really fabulous job of detoxing the liver safely and gently.
They are also usually commonly available in stores without having to go to specialized pharmacies that may only deal with practitioners and not the lay person.
This is a natural liver detox remedy that is very suited to people with liver problems, including toxicity, especially if you have been a person (or still are) who tends to over indulge in rich food, tobacco, alcohol and spices and also possibly have irregular meal patterns.
If you tend to wake un-refreshed and groggy, possibly with headaches, constipation and are irritable too then this remedy may well suit you very well.
Maybe you are a busy and stressed person with a lifestyle not conducive to a steady routine. Salesmen often seem to need this remedy as they are often having business lunches and dinners, with wines and spirits and cigars.
However they are also on the road driving for long periods of times without eating and driving from one meeting to another or one client to the next, with pressure from targets and deadlines to meet. They can be prone to stomach ulcers because of this stress and lifestyle also.
But even if you do not your lifestyle is over indulgent and irregular, if you believe your liver to be toxic, then Nux Vomica has such a strong affinity to the liver that it will help anyway.
This is also a brilliant homeopathic remedy for a natural liver detox but this one tends to suit people who have gastric trouble as well. So for example if certain foods tend to give you gas or make you bloated or give you diarrhoea such as beans, bread, pastry, fats, onions, vegetables then this may be the one to go for.
People who need this remedy tend to be confident on the outside, but they hide the fact that inside they are really not. They don’t tend to like to be in the limelight and yet may well have chosen a job where they are such as a teacher or an actor for example.
So they suffer with nerves when they are anxious about something coming up where they will be the centre of attention and it may even give them diarrhoea but none the less when they get up there, and get started you would never know they were a nervous wreck inside.
These people hate conflict and so tend to be peacemakers so as to avoid conflict but sometimes, deep inside they can actually feel very angry indeed.
However, just as with Nux Vomica above, even if this picture does not seem right, it is still worth trying because, thankfully, in this kind of area, an exact fit is not necessary. Sure if you see one is “more you” than the other then choose that one but if neither fit, don’t worry.
Just pick one and try it. If it does not do much (though it will always have some detoxification benefits) then go for the other as fortunately, homeopathics tend not to be expensive, especially in relation to prescription medicines.
How to use the homeopathic liver detox remedies
You need to purchase your chosen homeopathic natural liver detox remedy in the lowest potency you can. The reason here, is that in this instance, the lower potency will work in a more physical way on the organs and consequently the “remedy picture” does not need to fit so much as it would in other circumstances.
Once you have bought the remedy, start with just one in the morning for a few days to let your body start slowly. Then after a few days go to two a day and then after a few more days, take one in the mornings on waking, one during the day and one last thing at night.
Once you are up to three a day, stay on that level for two weeks and then wait and see how you are. If you feel there is still benefit to be obtained, then rest for two weeks, and go back on it for another two and so on until you think it has done as much as it is going to.
Other natural liver detox remedies
As I said earlier, I don’t want to overwhelm you with herbs and remedies and products and therapies so that you do not know which way to turn, and I have mentioned some of my “mainstays” but here is just a quick mention of a few other things that you might want to look into if the aforementioned methods do not appeal to you for any reason.
Chlorella and Spirulina “superfoods”
Reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum)
Glycine (unless you are on a low protein diet for medical reasons)
Another great resource that can be of great value if you want to find out more about natural detoxification methods is Dr. Sherry Rogers' book "Detoxify or Die", in which she promotes infrared sauna sessions in order to help the body get rid of toxins through the mechanism of profuse sweating.
To Keep in Mind
Once you have done all this wonderful natural liver detox work, and you feel lots better and have a clearer mind and more energy, it stands to reason that you do not want to go back to square one again.
So you need to keep working on keeping your system as clean and toned as possible on an ongoing basis. This involves lifestyle factors for you to consider changing.
Eat less processed, refined and chemically adulterated foods (eliminate if you can)
Eat more (much more) fruit and vegetables – organic if possible but otherwise, at least ensure that you wash everything thoroughly.
Eat as much of your fruit, salads and vegetables raw as you can tolerate.
Reduce or eliminate alcohol and tobacco consumption
Reduce or eliminate OTC and prescription medications as possible (ALL are toxic to the liver)
Stop recreational drug use if you use them
Eat in moderation and regularly instead of binging and then going long periods without food
Drink plenty of water to keep your system clear and flushed out
Make sure you don’t get constipated so again, water, fruit and vegetables, but also extra fiber if required.
Regular Exercise “wakes” the organs and stimulates them out of stagnation
I would just like to take this opportunity to remind you, that since we are all living in a toxic world and we cannot eliminate all of these, but can only use damage limitation, the question is not Should I do a natural liver detox? but rather how soon can I start and which one shall I choose?
It is my desire and hope that on these pages, you will discover all you need to know about detoxifying your body and especially your liver in a safe, gentle and yet still effective way.
It is important to remember though, that once you have done your natural liver cleanse and your body flush is completed, you should then ensure that you live in such a way as to minimise the degree and rate accumulation of toxins in your lives.
If you do make the lifestyle changes, and this keep your liver clean and toned, then a once in a while spring clean should be enough to keep your liver function at optimum performance.
