Natural Remedies for Hot Flashes
Herbs and other Natural Treatment of Hot Flashes here
If you are interested in discovering natural remedies for hot flashes (often known as hot flushes) you will be pleased to know that there are several choices.
Out of all of the health complications that I have been presented with in my practice, hot flashes are among the most common among my female patients.
The women that come to me for assistance with this troublesome symptom are usually completely overwhelmed by the hot flashes. In fact, many even express the fact that hot flashes are unbearable and to some degree, debilitating.
Despite the fact that these women have received prescription medications from their doctors that are supposed to alleviate hot flashes during menopause, they continue to suffer.
For the past couple of decades, I have placed a special focus on natural and homeopathic remedies. Throughout this time, I have discovered several natural remedies for hot flashes that have proven to be highly effective for patients. Today, I will share those remedies with you.
What Does a Hot Flash Feel Like?
In order to understand what natural remedies for hot flashes are available, you must first gain an understanding of hot flashes in general.

When a female suffers from this temperature fluctuation, they experience a sudden burst of warmth. The highest levels of intensity usually occur on the face. However, high levels may also be experienced on the neck region, as well as the chest.
The fluctuations are so intense that it could result in color changes to the skin. Many will find that their skin turns red. Furthermore, intense bouts of sweating may also accompany the hot flashes.
Immediately thereafter, the suffering female may catch a chill that is uncomfortable. These temperature fluctuations are commonly associated with fluctuating hormone levels in the body.
They are extremely common during menopause. However, despite the fact that this is a common symptom, it has the potential to be extremely devastating to the female that experiences it.
What Causes Hot Flashes?
It has yet to be determined what, exactly, causes hot flashes. This could be why basic prescription medications are not as effective as natural remedies for hot flashes.
Medical professionals believe that these stem from an assortment of issues that impact the hypothalamus in the body. This component of the body is identified as the thermostat of the human body.
When hot flashes are experienced during menopause, it is believed that a hormone commonly identified as “Estrogen” impacts the hypothalamus in the brain in a negative fashion.
It is important to understand that a low estrogen level, alone, does not seem to result in this disruption. Instead, it appears that when an individual experiences a true withdrawal of this hormone is when complications start to occur.
This is why women generally experience hot flashes while they are going through menopause.
In my practice, I have found that women typically have complications controlling hot flashes with prescription medications because those medications are not designed to address the underlying problem – they are merely designed to mask the symptom as a whole.
Natural remedies for hot flashes, on the other hand, are effective in treating the problem – not hiding it.
Risk Factors
Menopause is a condition that is uniquely experienced by each female. There are many that will experience hot flashes, and several that do not.
In addition to this, there are many women that will experience hot flashes in unique ways. For example, many will wake throughout the night experiencing the complication, while others are able to sleep soundly.
Then, there are some that experience profuse levels of sweating, while others do not sweat at all.
In many instances, hot flashes will originate in the toes and rise up in the body while others experience hot flashes that originate in the chest.
While hot flashes are extremely unique in the way that a female experiences them, one thing is for certain – regardless of how they are experienced, they impact the sufferer’s quality of life and are extremely uncomfortable.
There are many risk factors associated with this symptom of menopause that make you more likely to be obe of the women who will develop this. For example, if a female smokes, they have a higher chance of suffering from hot flashes.
In the same respect, those that are considered to be obese and do not engage in high levels of physical activity are more prone to experience this uncomfortable issue.
Ethnicity also seems linked to the occurrence of hot flashes. According to studies conducted on the issue, women that are African-American seem to suffer more from this issue than women that are European.
Additionally, European women tend to suffer from than those that are Chinese. Japanese women also experience this symptom less than European women.
In my practice, I have assisted women from all ethnic groups. The natural remedies for hot flashes are considered to be appropriate treatments for all – regardless of ethnicity.
Natural Remedies
Now that you understand the basics of what a hot flash is and how it is experienced by women, it is time to review some of the remedies that are considered to be both natural and effective for hot flashes.
While it is true that there are prescriptions medications that may assist in soothing the symptoms associated with menopause, the natural remedies for hot flashes typically do not include the possible side effects that often result from taking prescription medications.
As a matter of fact, when used properly, natural remedies are considered to be completely safe. The following highlights some natural remedies for hot flashes that my patients have found to be highly effective:
Black Cohosh
This natural herb is marketed and sold as a dietary based supplement within the United States. Originally, this herbal remedy was marketed as an effective means of alleviating the complicated symptoms associated with menopause, in general.
However, as time progressed and more became known about the herb, it was discovered that its true effectiveness rested in the treatment of hot flashes – whether they are mild, moderate or severe.
It is believed that the compound referred to as “Fukinolic Acid” that is in Black Cohosh encourages estrogen based activity within the body.
As a result of encouraging this activity, certain symptoms such as hot flashes, depression and even anxiety are drastically reduced.
Evening Primrose Oil
This is one of the most popular natural remedies for hot flashes. The patients that I have worked with that have taken this product often speak of the fact that it not only reduces the occurrence of hot flashes, but it also assists in optimizing the quality of sleep that they experience.
There is a special acid contained in this substance called “Gamma Linolenic Acid”. It is said that it helps encourage the production of prostaglandin.
Not only does this natural treatment alleviate the discomfort associated with hot flashes, but it also helps even out a female’s mood and emotions during menopause, and for this reason many women of all ages find it valuable even before menopause if they suffer from PMS.
Sepia
This is an absolutely marvellous homeopathic remedy that deals with many "womens problems" including many symptoms of menopause, not least hot flashes.
This is only one of many homeopathic remedies, but the reason that I include this one as opposed to any others is that this is one that I have seen work the most often.
I suggest buying a low potency like maybe a 6c or 30c and taking one tow or three times a day.
One important thing to be aware of, is that if you initially find your symptoms a little worse, then it means the sepia is over stimulating your body so just take it a little less often for a few days and then build up again if you need to. (this is true of all homeopathic remedies in all situations)
Physical Activity
One of the most effective and yet unacknowledged natural remedies for hot flashes is increasing the amount of physical activity that is engaged in on a regular basis.
Women that exercise on a regular basis experience higher levels of endorphins. As a result, hot flashes start to occur less frequently and the female will find that she feels better as a whole.
When coupled with a safe and productive diet, this is considered to be one of the most productive natural remedies for hot flashes and of course it is actually the cleapest.
Ginseng
If you have an interest in treating hot flashes naturally, you should also consider the advantages associated with using Ginseng.
This is designed to combat stress that is normally experienced during menopause. It is also effective in optimizing the state of mind of the sufferer.
Women that elect to take this natural product often discover that they are able to think more clearly, retain information more accurately, concentrate in higher levels and experience fewer complications with fatigue all of which are common symptoms of menopause.
Best of all, the compounds that are found in the product are considered to be highly effective in regulating the body’s temperature.
Plant Estrogens
Remember how I said earlier that women that are Japanese and Chinese experience the fewest complications associated with hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms?
Many in the medical field feel that this is because of the fact that they consume a high amount of plant estrogens.
Examples of plants that include estrogens include soy as well as red clover. By ensuring that your diet contains a lot of plant estrogens, you are less likely to suffer from the discomfort and debilitation of hot flashes.
As you can see, there are numerous natural remedies for hot flashes. If you suffer from this complicated issue, it is in your best interest to evaluate these remedies for yourself.
Just like my patients, I am sure that you, too, will experience profound relief from your hot flashes.
In addition to the natural remedies suggested here, it is essential that you learn to control and reduce the amount of stress that your body is subjected to. Learning to relax a bit will also assist in alleviating hot flashes and other common menopausal symptoms such as the inability to sleep, depression and anxiety.
Dressing appropriately and focusing on keeping your environment cool will also optimize your comfort levels. By utilizing some of these natural remedies for hot flashes, you will quickly discover that menopause does not have to be challenging or debilitating.
